Server migration
Moving servers is associated with risk and long downtime. With us it is a planned project: we move services and data to new infrastructure or the cloud with a plan, tests and a switchover window matched to how the company works.
- ISO/IEC 27001
- 3000+ workstations
- Since 2017
Old hardware, an operating system reaching end of support or a decision to move to the cloud sooner or later force a migration. A bad migration means lost data and downtime at the worst moment. A good one is almost invisible to users, because we rehearsed everything in advance.
What the migration project covers
A full move of the environment, from plan to confirmation that it works.
-
Inventory and plan
We list the services, dependencies and data to move, then set a plan and order, so nothing is forgotten along the way.
-
Moving the services
We migrate servers, apps and databases to the target infrastructure, physical, virtual or cloud, depending on the goal.
-
Data migration
We move data keeping consistency and verify the full set arrived. We leave nothing to guesswork.
-
Tests before launch
Before the actual switchover we check operation in the target environment. Migration day is not the first test.
-
Switchover and oversight
We switch services over in an agreed window and watch the environment right after launch, to catch small things before they grow.
Why minimal downtime comes from preparation, not luck
Short downtime during a migration is not a matter of how fast data copies on switchover day. It comes from what we did earlier. Before the actual date we replicate the target environment, move data in advance, start services on a trial basis and check that everything responds as it should. The switchover itself then comes down to a short, rehearsed operation, not a leap into the unknown under the pressure of the clock.
On top of that we always prepare a rollback plan. If something behaves differently in the migration window than in the tests, we return to the state before the switchover, instead of fixing things in production with anxious users. This principle, that the migration is reversible until success is confirmed, is what separates a planned project from risky improvisation. That is why we run a migration as a project with a clear start, end and result, not as an open-ended service without limits.
How the migration works
Four stages, at the end of which the services run on the new infrastructure.
- 2-4 weekstypical project delivery time
- minimaldowntime in the switchover window
- rollback planready in case of problems
- testsbefore every switchover
- Analysis and plan. We inventory the environment, establish dependencies and the migration goal, then propose a schedule and switchover window matched to how the company works.
- Environment preparation. We build the target infrastructure and move data in advance, so as little as possible is left to do on migration day.
- Acceptance tests. We check the services in the new environment together with you. The switchover happens only after it is confirmed that everything works.
- Switchover and close-out. We switch the services over, watch the first hours of work and hand over documentation of the new environment.
How we bill
We quote this service individually after a short scope analysis.
Frequently asked questions
How long will the company be unable to work during migration?
We plan the actual switchover for a window where the impact on work is smallest, often outside working hours. Thanks to earlier tests and moving data in advance, we limit the downtime itself to the necessary minimum.
Is there a risk of data loss?
We move data with a completeness check and keep the source environment until the migration is confirmed correct. Until we are sure the full set of data works in the new place, we delete nothing.
Will you help choose between our own server and the cloud?
Yes. Before we start moving anything, we analyse the costs and requirements of both options and recommend the one that really fits your company, without forcing it toward a single solution.
What if something goes wrong during migration?
We have a rollback plan ready. Until success is confirmed the migration is reversible, so if there is a problem we return to the state before the switchover, instead of fixing faults in production.
