The biggest problem with intranets is not the technology, it is that nobody opens them. They are built as a big project, then have no owner, the content ages and the team goes back to email and questions on chat. The result: yet another tool that changed nothing.

Security and permissions
An intranet gathers plenty of sensitive content in one place: HR documents, procedures, project data. We base permissions on Entra ID and groups, so everyone sees what they should and nothing more. We also take care of external sharing control, so internal material does not leak through stray links.
Intranet content, like any other area of SharePoint, is worth protecting with an independent copy. That is why we naturally combine the intranet with SharePoint backup, with 3-2-1 copies outside Microsoft.
