CAD servers for design offices

A file server for large DWG and RVT projects, network CAD licences, GPU workstations and project backup. An environment where work on central files does not slow down and your studio work stays safe.

A design office stands on two pillars: fast access to large files and continuity of work. A slow file server or a dead licence server stops the whole team, and losing the project catalogue means losing the studio work. We build and maintain infrastructure that rules this out.

What the service covers

From a file and licence server, through GPU workstations and remote access, to project backup.

  • File server for large projects

A fast file server for large DWG and RVT files and for work on Revit central files. Disks, network and memory picked so opening a model is not a coffee break.

  • Network license server

A network license server: Autodesk Network License, FlexNet and equivalents. Licences move around the team instead of sitting tied to one computer.

  • GPU workstations

Selection and configuration of workstations with GPU acceleration for CAD and 3D modelling. Hardware matched to the software, not bought on a hunch.

  • Networked plotters and large format

Networked plotters and large format printers: configuration, queues and access for the whole team, with no cable to a single seat.

  • Fast remote access

Remote work on projects: VPN and remote workstations with GPU acceleration. A designer works on a model from home without moving gigabytes of files.

  • Project backup

Copies of large project files with versioning and ransomware protection. Losing the project catalogue stops being a scenario that ends the studio.

Performance for central files and large models

Work on Revit central files and on large DWG drawings loads the file server and the network above all. When disks, memory or the link cannot keep up, the whole team waits on every open and save of a model. This is not a single workstation problem, it is a bottleneck for the whole studio.

We design the server for real load: fast disks, the right memory, a fast network and order in the project structure. On top of that a licence server, so expensive CAD subscriptions are shared, not wasted. The result: you open a model instead of waiting for it.

Losing the project catalogue means losing the studio work

The whole value of a design office sits in the files: models, drawings, documentation. A single ransomware encryption or an array failure with no backup can set a studio back by years. Version history in the software is no substitute for real backup here.

We protect projects with the 3-2-1 rule: many copies, in different locations, with immutable copies resistant to ransomware. We keep versions so you can return to an earlier state of a model, and we regularly test recovery. That is the difference between a one day setback and the end of the studio.

How we launch it

From an audit of the design environment to maintenance and backup.

  • central filesperformance for Revit and large DWG
  • licencesnetwork, shared across the team
  • GPUworkstations and remote access with acceleration
  • 3-2-1project backup, ransomware resistant
  1. Audit of the design environment. We learn the software, the size of the projects and how the team works. We point out the bottlenecks: server, network, licences, backup.
  2. File and licence server. We set up a fast file server for large models and a network license server. We tidy the project structure and access.
  3. Workstations, GPU and remote access. We pick GPU workstations, configure networked plotters and launch fast remote access for designers.
  4. Backup and maintenance. We deploy project backup with versioning, test recovery and run the environment day to day.

Model rozliczeń

We quote building the environment per project, and we run ongoing maintenance on a subscription that depends on the size of the studio. The cost is predictable and scales with the team.

Included

  • Administration of the file and licence server
  • Project backup and recovery testing
  • Maintenance of remote access and workstations
  • Monitoring and team support

Beyond the plan

  • Purchase of servers, workstations and GPUs
  • Building the environment from scratch or migration
  • Very large project volumes

Pairs naturally with server backup, disaster recovery and Mac management, when the studio works in a mixed environment.

Frequently asked questions

How is a CAD server different from an ordinary file server?

In scale and load profile. Revit central files and large DWG drawings need fast disks, plenty of memory and a fast network, because the whole team uses one file at once. An ordinary file server for office documents will not carry that. We match hardware to real models, not to an average office.

Why an AutoCAD license server?

Network licences (Autodesk Network License, FlexNet and equivalents) let you share expensive subscriptions across the team: a licence is checked out when someone works and returns to the pool when the program closes. That is cheaper and more convenient than assigning licences permanently to seats.

Can a designer work remotely on a large model?

Yes. We launch remote workstations with GPU acceleration, so a designer works on the model over a remote desktop while the heavy files stay with the server. You do not move gigabytes over the link, and performance is close to working on site.

How do you back up large project files?

With the 3-2-1 rule: many copies, in different locations, including immutable copies resistant to ransomware, with project versioning. We regularly test recovery so that after a failure or an attack you can return to a specific version of a model, not just count on luck.
