Migration from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365

We move the team from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365 without a lost day of work. Email from Gmail, files from Drive and calendars land in place, and users keep working.

Moving between two clouds is not copying files, it is a change of ecosystem: different document formats, different sharing, different calendars. We run this project so the differences are handled before the switchover, not after. We also do the reverse direction, from Microsoft 365 to Google Workspace.

Scope of the migration

Email, files and calendars from Google Workspace moved to Microsoft 365, with a trial and support after launch.

  • Email from Gmail

We move mailboxes, folders, contacts and labels from Gmail to Exchange Online, mapping the structure onto Outlook folders.

  • Files from Google Drive

Data from Drive and shared drives lands on OneDrive and SharePoint, keeping the structure and access permissions.

  • Calendars and contacts

Meetings, shared calendars and contacts we move to Microsoft 365, so the team schedule stays consistent.

  • Test migration

First a sample of accounts, then production. We check document formats and sharing before the whole company moves.

  • Accounts and security

We create accounts in Entra ID, set MFA and conditional access, so the environment starts secured from the outset.

  • Team support

Short guides to Outlook, OneDrive and Teams, plus help in the first days, because it is not only email that changes.

What the difference between Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 is

This is not moving the same thing from one drawer to another. Google Docs turn into Office formats, sharing from Drive has to be mapped onto SharePoint and OneDrive permissions, and the logic of calendars and groups works differently. If someone treats this as ordinary file copying, users lose access to documents after the switchover or cannot see shared calendars.

That is why we start with an inventory: accounts, data volume on Drive, shared drives, integrations and who works with what. We run the test migration on a sample of accounts to catch differences in formats and sharing. We plan the production switchover in a window matched to the company, and keep Google Workspace on for a set time until we confirm everything is in place.

Migration also works the other way

The same team and the same method handle the reverse direction, from Microsoft 365 to Google Workspace. If a company changes its decision or merges with an organisation working on Google, we move email from Exchange, files from OneDrive and SharePoint and calendars to Google Workspace, likewise with a trial and a controlled window.

How the migration works

The order is simple: first analysis and a trial, then production. Risk is meant to surface in the test.

  • test migrationon a sample of accounts before production
  • migration windowmatched to how the company works
  • no data losscompleteness verification after the switch
  • both directionsGoogle to Microsoft and back
  1. Inventory. We check accounts, data on Drive, shared drives and integrations. We set the scope and how permissions will be mapped.
  2. Trial and format mapping. We migrate a sample of accounts and check documents and sharing. We solve format differences before production.
  3. Production and switchover. We move the rest of the data, switch the domain and email over in a window matched to the company, watching over continuity of work.
  4. Care after launch. We support users in the first days in Outlook, OneDrive and Teams, until the new environment settles into a rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

Will documents from Google Drive open in Microsoft 365?

Yes. We convert Google Docs to Office formats, and map sharing from Drive onto SharePoint and OneDrive permissions. We check correctness in the test migration.

Will we lose calendars and shared appointments?

No. We move calendars, meetings and contacts together with email, so the team schedule stays consistent after the switchover.

Do you do the migration the other way, from Microsoft 365 to Google Workspace?

Yes. We handle both directions with the same method, with a trial on a sample of accounts and a switchover in a controlled window.

How long does such a migration take?

It depends on the number of accounts and the data volume on Drive, but a typical project wraps up in a few weeks. We give an exact timeline after the inventory.
